Felted Pendant Necklace Workshop
Description
The most ancient textile technique, felt, is also referred to as the “clay of textiles”. Small 3D felted pendants are perfect examples to understand this statement. In this workshop you will learn how to felt a complex 3D shape, creating a rigged surface from pleated felt. We’ll construct the pendant step-by step from super-extra-fine 16-micron merino wool. Using soap, water and agitation, the loose fibers will tangle and shrink, and become a strong material: felt that is still malleable.
Fiber arts is a huge part of the culture in the Nordic countries. Felting has a rich history in the Nordic countries and there is a huge modern revival. The history goes beyond modern record keeping. During the cold months in Nordic countries crafting (especially fiber arts) is a great way to pass the time along with using resources that were traditionally on the farm and the land. Join us in this Nordic tradition with a modern take.
